A brutally honest, surprisingly hopeful

book for anyone asking:

WTF do I do

with my life now?

Chronic Illness Sucks is packed with practical tools, fierce compassion, and honest humor. It won’t sugarcoat the struggle—but it will remind you that joy is still possible.

About Kerina Sorensen

Hi, I’m Kerina.

I write about chronic illness, resilience, and how to rebuild a meaningful life when the one you had disappears.

My Story: In early 2021, I was living a normal life—working as an RMT, going to the gym, taking singing lessons, cackling in the staff room with colleagues over Greek yogurt. Then, almost overnight, my body was hijacked by a neurological disorder I had never even heard of.

There were no answers. No clear path forward. Just a sudden collapse—and the crushing realization that the life I had known was gone.

This book is what came after.

After the crying. After the pleading. After the silence.
Piece by piece, I rose from what broke me.

I found strength inside the struggle—and something sacred in the pain.

Now I write for anyone standing in the aftermath of a life they didn’t choose—for anyone learning how to live inside a reality they never saw coming.
Because while we don’t always get to choose what happens to us, we do get to choose what we create from here.

Today, in addition to my writing, I work in recreation therapy at Bethany Care Society, supporting residents in reconnecting with joy, fun, and meaningful moments in their daily lives. It’s work I’m deeply proud of—and one more way I get to walk with people through change and loss while helping them find connection, meaning, and goodness along the way.

Things I love: My dogs, songwriting, growing herbs, making tinctures, antique & thrift shopping, karaoke, game nights, and mini eggs.

Before the rebuild, there’s a pause. A breath. A moment when you start choosing what’s still yours to shape. That’s where empowerment begins.
